―Rodrigo Borgia[src]

Rodrigo Borgia is a main character in the first, second and third seasons. He is portrayed by Jeremy Irons, and makes his debut in the series premiere.

Rodrigo is the pope of Rome. He is ruthlessly ambitious and utterly devoted to his family. He is the father of Cesare Borgia, Lucrezia Borgia, Juan Borgia and Joffre Borgia.

He was made cardinal at about the same age as his son, Cesare.[1]

Season oneEdit

The head of the Borgia clan is an interesting dichotomy of a man. Both ruthlessly ambitious and utterly devoted to his family, he uses his position in the Catholic church to acquire power, influence, and wealth. He is incredibly shrewd and manages to outmaneuver his rivals at every turn. But he also enjoys the carnal pleasures of life, particularly the company of beautiful women, and this leaves him open to his enemies.[2]

Season twoEdit

The head of the Borgia clan uses his position in the Catholic church to acquire and consolidate power, influence, and wealth. His undying devotion to his derelict favorite son Juan has been a chink in his otherwise impenetrable armor, and has wreaked havoc for him both personally and professionally. Juan's unfortunate fate has left Alexander reeling and untethered, and it may have provided his enemies the prime opportunity to destroy the Borgia family.[3]
